Invests in and interview with i-Gene corporation

2024/3/20

i-Gene corporation was established in 2016 as a startup from Ehime University to commercialize molecular introduction using atmospheric-pressure (AP) plasma. Molecular introduction by AP plasma was first conceived in 2000 by a Japanese pharmaceutical company and is a new technology in which genes and proteins are introduced into cells by AP plasma generated by electric discharge in air. There are three main methods of conventional gene transfer: physical, chemical, and viral and these methods have problems such as safety, efficiently, cost, etc. Due to the increased safety with the plasma method, which activates the cell's ability to take up substances from the outside, allowing genes and proteins to be taken up into the cell, we expect that it can be applied to medical, beauty, and industrial applications, such as those related to food.
